Setting Goals

This year in my placement I hope to gain both the confidence and knowledge necessary to become an effective and competent teacher.  This will hopefully happen through working closely with my Mentor Teacher.  I already feel that I am building a strong professional relationship with her and hope to do the same with my students.  I am excited to begin this journey and although I am nervous to create entire unit plans, I feel confident that I can do it with the help and support of my mentor teacher and university supervisor.

You are such a confident gal, I don't think that portion of your goal will be much of a problem, Alexis! You state that you're feeling a mixture of excitement and anxiousness, but don't forget that you have the support of your classmates as well! I think it's safe to say that we are ALL secretly scared and it's especially overwhelming when we start to think of everything at once. It's important to remember to just take one step at a time and to stop and just breathe. I feel like both components (taking a breath and taking one step at a time) is something we automatically do on a daily basis but it's also something we neglect or forget.

Anyway, I'm glad that things are working out well with your MT and I think it's a great goal to build strong professional relationships! Something I need to work on as well.

Thanks for this post, Miss Fisher. I definitely agree with Ms. Nquyen that taking things one step at a time will be very beneficial to you this year and in your career. I am confident you will meet this challenge with a proactive and positive mind-set, just as you have been doing throughout your academic and professional career. Keep up the good work!
